Service Description

8-Week Wheel Throwing Class Week 1. Throwing simple forms Introduction to studio protocols, equipment, tools, and safety. Learn the basics of wedging clay, centering and making cylinders. Week 2. Throwing with consistency, thickness, symmetry Transforming cylinders into bowls and other shapes. Week 3. Altering clay and adding handles Introduction to trimming and altering pieces. Pulling and attaching handles. Week 4. Exploring more complex forms Techniques for making necks, vases, bottles and plates. Incorporating textures and patterns into the clay, using stamps and slips. Week 5. First glazing Understanding the process of glazing pottery pieces and glazing work from the first 4 weeks. Week 6. Lidded containers & other complex pieces More wheel work. Making a lidded container, and other more complex forms. This will be the last day to throw new pieces. Week 7. Trimming & decorating your final pieces Trimming and underglazing your final forms. Week 8. Final glazing Continuing to experiment with glazing techniques on your last batch of bisqued pieces. You’ll be notified by email when your pieces are ready, in 3-4 weeks.

Cancellation Policy

Studio Policies Students are not permitted to load, unload, or operate pottery kilns. Keep hair tied back for safety. Avoid wearing loose articles of clothing or jewelry that could pose hazards. Closed-toe and closed-heel footwear must be worn in the pottery studio. Do not operate any equipment without the presence of an instructor. All completed work must be collected from Ford City Potters within 6 weeks after the final class, once you're notified by email. Work will not be stored after 6 weeks. Students are expected to arrive on time for each class to ensure the smooth running of the session. Late arrivals cannot make up for lost time. For whatever reason, if Ford City Potters must cancel a session or class, students will be notified via email, and a full refund will be issued. Classes must be paid in full upon registering on the website (credit card or PayPal accepted). Classes are non-refundable. Makeup days are only possible only for glazing days, and only if a space is open in another class. Students are expected to maintain a respectful and inclusive environment in the classroom, treating the instructor and fellow participants with courtesy and consideration. Zero tolerance for disruptive or disrespectful behaviour. In other words, be kind at all times.
