Class Description
Handbuilt Holiday Village — A Two-Session Workshop with Mandy D'Angelo! @mandydeangeloart You've seen her whimsical work, now learn how she does it! Build a whimsical little village of your own, ready to nestle under the tree or gather on a mantel this holiday season. Over two sessions, Mandy will show you how she hand-builds her sweet structures, creating a cluster of clay houses on a rolling hillside platform, adding texture and personal details. Session One, Nov 8th: Building the Village Using her simple paddle and pinch techniques, you'll shape a row of cozy little houses — each one different, with its own peaked or rounded roof, carved windows and doors, and personality. After hollowing them out, we'll build a hilly platform base to nestle them into, and finish with a few tree accents tucked among the rooflines. We'll all work with the same amount of clay, but no two villages will look alike. Session Two, Nov 22, Bring it to life! (NOTE: this session is two weeks later, to allow the village to dry, and be bisque fired). Once bisque-fired, we'll hand-paint the village with Stroke And Coat glazes— for the houses, and cozy little details like windows and door frames, trees, trailer design. Take home a one-of-a-kind ceramic village for the kids to play with and to display year after year. All skill levels welcome. Clay, tools, glazes, and firing included.
