1. When did you fall in love with pottery?
My sister actually introduced me to Ford City Potters through one of their drop-in classes—and I instantly fell in love. After that first session, I signed up for the beginner course, then the intermediate one, and eventually became a studio member. I’ve always found pottery fascinating. I used to see ceramic artists online and thought it was incredible how something so simple could be shaped into something beautiful with just your hands. Once I finally tried it myself, I was hooked.
2. What have been the benefits of working with clay?
Patience, patience, patience! Clay has truly taught me how to slow down. I used to be someone who couldn’t stand waiting, but pottery has shown me that sometimes things go wrong—and that’s okay. You just pick it back up and start again. It’s been such a grounding experience.

3. Do you have a favourite piece you’ve made so far? What’s the story behind it?
My favorite piece is a little planter with a frown face I made. I didn’t have a plan when I started throwing it—I just went with the flow. Then I decided to give it arms and legs, and somehow it became this funny, charming piece that makes me smile every time I see it. It reminds me that pottery doesn’t always have to be serious—it can be playful, spontaneous, and full of character.

4. Favourite tool?
Definitely the potter’s sponge. It’s so simple, but it helps me make clean, polished pieces every time.
5. Favourite clay?
Still exploring! I haven’t settled on a favorite yet.
6. Favourite time of day to come to the studio?
Early mornings. It’s so peaceful when the studio is quiet—I can just focus on the clay, get lost in the process, and create without distractions.
7. Best local food spot?
Shanghai Bistro! Hands down the best food in Windsor. I love it so much that I always joke they’ll have to cater my future wedding one day.

8. What do you like to listen to when you work?
Usually jazz or folk—artists like Hozier or Laufey are on repeat. Slow, soulful music helps me find my rhythm at the wheel way more than pop ever could.
9. What’s your next pottery goal, or the skill you’re most keen to learn?
I want to learn how to throw bigger pieces! I love making smaller items, but I’d like to start creating larger, more consistent sets—like dinnerware. I’m also dreaming of making my own tiles one day for a backsplash in my future home.
10. Best part of being a member of Ford City Potters Studio?
The community, 100%. Everyone here is so friendly and supportive. Even if I walk in and meet someone new, it never feels awkward—it’s always easy
conversation, helpful tips, and shared excitement about clay. It’s such a warm, welcoming space.
