From polymer to firing clay, "Tay's Clays" brings her art to a new medium.

1. When did you fall in love with pottery?
I was always drawn to pottery, but I didn’t think it was something I could truly pursue without having a kiln. When I took my first handbuilding class, that changed everything. The feeling of turning a simple block of clay into something beautiful and functional made me fall in love instantly.
2. What have been the benefits of working with clay?
There’s something almost therapeutic when you’re working with your hands. Seeing something come to life after it was just a block of clay is so rewarding and grounding.
It’s messy, imperfect, and completely yours. And when it’s finished, you’re holding proof that you created something from nothing. That kind of magic never gets old
3. Do you have a favourite piece you’ve made so far? What’s the story behind it?

My favourite piece so far would be the bubble coffee mug I made in a wheel class. I never thought I was a mug girly, but there’s something so special about drinking coffee out of a cup you made with your own hands. It’s a daily reminder of how far I’ve come and how proud I am of myself for trying something new.
4. Favourite tool?
My favourite tool is a little blue rib I use to compress my slabs. I have no idea what brand it is, but I reach for it every single time.
5. Favourite clay?
Classic white - I’ve been enjoying using different underglazes and I love how they look on the white clay.
6. Favourite time of day to come to the studio?
Around 10/11am. The studio feels calm and quiet.

7. Best local food spot?
Restaurant will always be Take Five, but lately I’ve been loving Mr.Puffs.
8. What do you like to listen to when you work?
My music taste is all over the place, lately it has been a mixture of Lizzy McAlpine, Hot Mulligan, In color, and BigXthaPlug
9. What’s your next pottery

goal, or the skill you’re most keen to learn?
My next pottery goal is to get more practice on the wheel. I want to make travel mugs and flower pots.
10. Best part of being a member of Ford City Potters Studio?
The best part of being a member of Ford City Potters Studio is feeling like I truly belong in a creative space. It’s not just about having access to equipment, it’s about the encouragement, shared knowledge, and friendships that come with it.
